In 1992 kondigde Francis Fukuyama het einde van de geschiedenis aan. De liberale democratie zou het autocratische communisme hebben overwonnen en een tijdperk van vrede in een liberale internationale wereldorde lag voor ons. Dertig jaar later lijkt niets minder waar en de geopolitieke spanning juist steeds hoger op te lopen. Op het Europese continent woedt oorlog, gestart door het autocratisch-nationalistische bewind dat in het Kremlin zetelt, het steeds autocratischer wordende China wint aan macht en de historisch sterke transatlantische relatie tussen de Verenigde Staten en Europa is aan het wankelen gebracht. In dit nieuwe geopolitieke landschap dient zich een nieuwe rol aan voor Europa. Hoe moet Europa haar veiligheid waarborgen in de 21ste eeuw? Wat is het doel van ons buitenland beleid? Hoe zorgen we dat onze Europese waarden de grondslag vormen van ons beleid? En waar passen onze linkse idealen in dit verhaal?

Op donderdag 30 mei organiseren het JongWB van GroenLinks & JongWBS van de PvdA een discussieavond over het Europees veiligheidsbeleid in Grand Café Utopie in Den Haag om 19:00. Hierbij zullen we luisteren naar en discussiëren met jonge experts & politici over onze visie op een effectief, progressief en rechtvaardig veiligheidsbeleid voor Europa.
